Hello...
Thought I would share just a little of what has kept me busy over the past few weeks.
I have 4 projects on the go...two are in the final stages and two are just beginning. The Vintage Rouge quilt is now ready for the final strips on the sides, the quilting and the binding. I love the striped binding material...many of the colors in the quilt are in this fabric. I will be doing a bias binding.
VINTAGE ROUGE QUILT ~ FINISHING FABRICS
The next several photos are of a quilt pattern I received on August 21st, 2012. I was so thrilled so see the hand applique quilt that my friend Doreen was doing that I just had to order it. She is using batik reds which will be beautiful. I decided to go in a different direction and use browns, a batik gold and a muted red. This is a tedious quilt...and I found it easier to do everything assembly line style. I have prepared all 36 squares for applique...and the pics below will give you an idea of how it went to this point. This quilt when completed will definitely be a labor of love!

TRANSFERRING PATTERN ONTO FABRIC
KEEPING ALL OF THE FREEZER PAPER TEMPLATES
Keeping the templates is important in case you don't like what you have appliqued. I did one square and didn't like the thread I had used...a polyester...and so I was able to reuse the freezer paper to make a new square. And I am using a natural cotton thread and size 11 needles.

BASTED SQUARE
I was going to hand baste all of the squares, but decided that was going to take forever.
You could machine baste, but I am lightly spray basting the squares. It holds well and is pliable enough to allow for turning. Look at all of the those curves to clip!! x 36 squares!!
ALL 36 SQUARES READY TO GO
I found using a 12.5 inch square ruler an invaluable tool. It cut down on the time it would take to go around 4 sides with a straight ruler.
MATTHEW'S QUILT
As much as I love the process of designing my own work...this quilt, in the latest issue of Quilt Sampler magazine seemed like the perfect quilt for my grandson. He loved it...except for the pink and purple and so we will do a different color for those squares and add a border print around the squares. This is the 4th project and I want to finish it by Christmas...I hope I can.
NANCY'S PIANO
And lastly if you are still with me after scrolling forever, I decided it was time to give my piano to a new family whose children are at the perfect age to begin to learn. This was the piano I played from the time I was 6 years old. It has been with me for 51 years. I don't play like I used to and my mother, who sat with me for countless hours is now gone and so this transition is bittersweet and the circle of life goes on with little ones once again learning to play a piano.
This picture was taken on Friday just before it left the garage.

I'm off to visit my Dad for a few days....
Enjoy your week!

Dear Nancy,

Oh you are so busy and have some wonderful projects on the go.
So much work and love all the fabrics and patterns you are using.
Mathews quilt is fabulous, so he did not like the pink and purple?
Bittersweet with having to say goodbye to the piano, but lovely that it is going to some new pianists.
Have a great week and enjoy your time away with your Dad.

Hugs
Carolyn
