Old and Vintage...

Hi Everyone...
I thought I would share a few items that I have purchased very reasonably in the last couple of weeks. This past weekend, I went to the Calgary Doll Show. I wasn't really going with the intent of buying anything...but I spotted a few pieces that I thought I could incorporate into my work. I don't make dolls this size, but there are wonderful elements in each piece that can be utilized or recycled.

The next grouping is old books. We took a drive out of the city a week ago and discovered a used book store that had moved out from the city. Old books have such great patina...and the three I chose were for a couple of reasons. The first was the color...because I use a lot of vintage elements in my work, the color was important. The second was the pages. I was looking for rough edges, a tea-stained look of the pages and graphics. The old pictures and graphics are so wonderful...such detail that you don't see today.
The clerk was a little curious about my choices...I told her what I was going to do...I don't think she believed I would take a 100 year old book apart!

The pictures are from the little mustard-colored
German book. This book teaches you the German alphabet.

The red book is over 100 years old...it is in wonderful condition.

Have a wonderful week!
Nancy

Hi Nancy, Looks like you found some lovely treasures. I find it hard to take old books apart. I end up scanning the images and keeping the books. That works too. Enjoy your treasures, Karen

Hi Karen...Thank-you. I know...it is hard. But I have no sentimental ties to them and not enough storage to keep them all...and I do like to use the original paper.

The little book with "Maggie Music" in my blog shoppe was made using the blue and red books.

Take care,
Nancy

Hi Nancy,

What lovely finds you bought - love all those pretty pink and white clothes and look forward to seeing what you make from them.
Don't you just love old books, even the smell is lovely. You have got some nice ones.

Have a good day

Hi Carolyn...Thank-you so much for visiting. Thank-you...I agree, that musty, aged smell adds to their charm.

Have a great day!
Hugs, Nancy
